My Chicago friend K used to say that the “L” was the great equalizer. You could see people from all walks of life riding it. The same can be said for the London Underground. I was standing on very crowded platform recently between a guy that had the refined looks of Jude Law and a beefy guy who was drinking the equivalent of an American 40 ounce. There was also a face painted sports fan and a guy in a dress kilt and bowtie looking like he was off to a wedding or some formal event. All of these people face the same frustration that come with public transportation.
