Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary defines snarky as sarcastic, impertinent, or irreverent in tone or manner. Snarky is very common here, especially in the media. H mentioned that the Super Bowl was today and I looked in the newspaper tv guide to see what time and what channel it would be on here, and here is the description in the The Guardian tv guide:

It always seems an odd time of year to stage a major sporting spectacle, but there you go.
