Happy Mother's Day

It's Mother's Day here in the UK. I didn't realize that holiday would fall on a different day here than in the U.S.

actually its mothering sunday, which is slightly different to mother's day. mothering sunday goes back a long time: originally it was the day you returned to your "mother church" (often the big local cathedral) for a special service, and the day was set in relation to Easter, so it moves around every year. a few hundred years later it became the day that servants were given off to go to visit their mothers and other family members, so retained the connection with "mother", and its then morphed into the day we know today.

bit of history there for you! there's a link on my blog on mothering sunday to a wikipedia entry which you may find informative.

either way, i hope you enjoyed it!
